To File for a Marriage License
Due to COVID-19, please make an appointment if you wish to file for a marriage license.
Marriage license are $82. Cash, check and credit cards are accepted.
We require a valid state ID
In person marriage license are only issued between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Appointments are scheduled every 30 minutes.
There is a 72 hour waiting period before you can marry and you have 90 days to use the license.
Online Marriage Application
To fill the marriage application online, you can go to Official Public Records. Choose Marriage Application & Searching, then Marriage Application. This form allows you and your fiancée to fill out the application for a marriage license at home. You can then schedule a time to come into our office to show your identification, pay, and we will print off the marriage license for you.
Couples who go through the approved marriage education course Twogether in Texas will not have to pay the $60 state portion of their marriage license fee and the 72 hour waiting period is waived.

To Obtain a Certified Copy of a Marriage License
Certified copies are only issued for marriage licenses purchased and filed in Erath County
Certified copies are highly recommended if you need to mail your license as proof of marriage
You can obtain a certified copy of a marriage license by:
Coming into our office in person between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., no appointment necessary
Calling our office and requesting the copy be mailed to you-this requires a credit card payment by phone
Requesting the certified copy from our Official Public Records site. Find the marriage license you need, enter your address and payment information, we will then receive the request and mail the license to you. The payment is processed once we complete the request.
